Privacy Policy — Whisperleaf

Whisperleaf is an on-device voice transcription app. In short: Whisperleaf does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. Everything happens on your iPhone.

What Whisperleaf does with your recordings

• Recordings, transcripts, and everything derived from them stay on your device. When you record or import audio, the audio and its transcript are processed and stored locally on your iPhone. Speaker labels, summaries, and cleaned-up transcripts are all produced on-device too.
• Your audio and transcripts are never uploaded. Whisperleaf does not send your recordings, transcripts, summaries, or any content derived from them to us or to any third party. There is no server that receives your content.
• You are in control. Recordings and transcripts remain on your device until you delete them. Removing them in the app removes them from the device.

Microphone

Whisperleaf uses the microphone only to record audio you explicitly start, so it can be transcribed on your device. The microphone is not accessed at any other time. iOS shows its standard recording indicator whenever the microphone is active.

Network use

Whisperleaf works entirely on-device, with one exception: it downloads the speech and summarization models it runs. Those downloads are delivered by Apple, from Apple's servers, using Apple's Background Assets system — the same mechanism the App Store uses to deliver an app. Apple's speech recognition uses a small language pack supplied by iOS; the larger Whisper model and the summarizer are downloaded only if you choose to use them, and can be removed again from Settings. Translating a transcript uses Apple's translation packs, which iOS downloads the first time you pick a language — for that language and for the recording's own, since translating needs both — and which are shared with every app on your iPhone.

These are one-time transfers to your device. No audio, transcripts, summaries, speaker names, or any other personal information is ever transmitted from your device — not during a download, and not at any other time. Whisperleaf sends nothing to us, to any AI service, or to any other third party. It contains no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services, and no account to sign in to.

No accounts, no tracking

• No account or sign-in. Whisperleaf has no user accounts and asks for no personal information.
• No tracking. Whisperleaf does not track you, does not use the Advertising Identifier, and shares no data with data brokers or advertising networks. It contains no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.

Data storage and security

Your recordings, transcripts, and summaries are stored in the app's private, sandboxed storage on your device, protected by iOS's standard app data protections. Because the data never leaves your device, its security is governed by your device's own protections (passcode, Face ID/Touch ID, encryption at rest).

Children's privacy

Whisperleaf collects no personal information from anyone, including children, and is safe to use at any age. It does not knowingly collect data from children because it does not collect data at all.

Changes to this policy

If the app's data practices change, this policy will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will change. Material changes will be reflected here before the corresponding app version ships.
